The Asia-Pacific Mediation Form (APMF) is a not-for-profit regional association of individuals, organisations and institutions interested in interpersonal, inter-group, community, trans-cultural and international mediation and conflict management. It is committed to the use of mediation and other appropriate conflict management or dispute resolution processes wherever conflicts threaten the well-being of individuals, organisations, communities, and local, state or national governments in the region.
The APMF encourages the exchange of information related to mediation and conflict transformation on its website and at bi-annual regional conferences.
Purpose
To bring together experienced conflict resolution and mediation practitioners, researchers, educators, trainers and policy makers from different cultural, organisational and professional backgrounds who are culturally fluent, creative and innovative, want to contribute (and build on) their knowledge and expertise, and are prepared to play a leadership role in transforming the way that conflicts are handled in the Asia-Pacific region.
History
Since 2001, the APMF has co-coordinated four successful Mediation Conferences throughout the Asia Pacific region (i.e. Australia, Singapore, Fiji and Malaysia). Traditionally, the conferences provided an exceptional opportunity for an array of Asia Pacific mediation through conflict transformation focused academics, policy makers, practitioners and students to engage in knowledge and skills sharing, building and networking in a stimulating environment over a three day timeframe. During the APMF Mediation Conference in Malaysia (2008), given progressive recognition and professionalization worldwide, participants’ identified the need for access to a collaborative ‘strategic dialogue and action planning space’ in which they could collectively and more comprehensively contribute to the practical advancement of mediation through conflict transformation processes across the Asia Pacific region.
